There’s honestly something special to parenthesis (speaking broadly, bracketing). Of all symbols and comments. It’s voiceless, but seems to perform an action. It segments and groups, so defines.
I recall seeing Gödel encoded each parenthesis character separately in his proof, and thinking of that. The parenthesis exists with a pair, but is one.
Parenthesis seems integral to layering. There is some dimensionality.
There’s a Palindromic, mirroring quality. Nesting.
It can be silent but essential, like an important conversation in another room or a distant land.
text somehow makes us put into parentheses (in other words, forget, at least for as long as we continue reading) what it has no intention of speaking about.
