Reference Silence - John Cage From the Tree to the Labyrinth Deixis - Deictic Field and Narration On Hands
There’s honestly something special to parenthesis (speaking broadly, bracketing). Of all symbols and comments. It’s voiceless, but seems to perform an action. It segments and groups, so defines.
I recall seeing Gödel encoded each parenthesis character separately in his proof, and thinking of that. The parenthesis exists with a pair, but is one.
Parenthesis seems integral to layering. There is some dimensionality.
There’s a Palindromic, mirroring quality. Nesting.
It can be silent but essential, like an important conversation in another room or a distant land.
text somehow makes us put into parentheses (in other words, forget, at least for as long as we continue reading) what it has no intention of speaking about.
There’s something of dimensionality too. Conditionality? Fish(es), sunset(s).
