I have an incomplete thought I am sorting out here.

First concept, an independent artist creating a song for distribution. A label can provide a focal point for which others can discover this sound. It eases with adoption and spread of the sound since it is an aggregate of sounds and builds momentum. There is a nexus.

Are numbers and words like the labels in music in this sense? Two whole numbers, and the range from one integer to another being enclosed in that field.

In putting this to paper, I’ve deflated this idea. There was something to the jangly edges that has been lost. I was looking at the mountain tops while traveling and wondering why they form points.

Focus Groups

I was thinking of the presidential debate and how language in this sense is crafted through iteration. In regular conversation, things are unedited. For better or worse there’s a lack of craft generally. Things may be withheld for this reason.

But what of language produced in the presidential debate, where various focus groups will have already heard talking points and reacted to them, thus providing an optimized structure from which to answer questions. Say there are 5 “zingers” that have high quality response ratings. These will be deployed. If they are jokes, what can we say of them?
