I like this style of fashion/expression, which I’ll try to explain here.

Basically it is something excessive, but hidden. It is something flamboyant, but in such a small dosage, or requiring seeking so that it doesn’t appear in your face. The design might be isolated to an arm, or a hand, or beneath hair.

There is inherent asymmetry, if not only toward the design but to the experience.

There is an element of fantasy.

It might be something like a completely plain outfit that looks natural and classic, but a glistening belt of crystals.

A metallic arm.

All black plain T-shirt but on the inside, the back facing the skin has a giant, excessively beautiful golden eagle.

A golden sock.

A single ornate bell affixed to a sleeve.

It will be a normal sweater, except one arm is sliced and intricately woven/threaded. 90% of the effort is isolated to a single arm.

These might not be good examples but they are getting toward what I am trying to convey.

Silly socks

Silly socks capture this idea, but are so mainstream and uncool at this point that they’ve deflated the concept. I am talking about seeing even those CEOs in more formal, fitted clothing and they sit, and at their ankles there will be revealed extremely corny jokey socks (something like candy canes, or pugs). It’s in deliberate contrast to the formality of the clothing.

I have a personal aversion to this style, but must document it here as a mainstream example.

Pins

Decorative pins are one way of achieving this. Like having a classic look, but small pins of the moon all over. Some dissonance.

There’s a pin game I could play. Hide a pin on you in an odd place and if someone notices they get to keep it. If they want they should also hide the pin, and carry on the journey of the concealed pin.

Hidden rainbow hair

That dated viral trend of hidden rainbow hair approaches this concept. Only the under layer of hair is dyed. This is the motivation.

Decaying clothes

What about plain clothes that rather than turn to thread over time, reveal a fantastic vision in their decay? Something that grows luminous when exposed to light over a long period of time, or reveals text or details through wear. Like a molting.
