I’ve noticed that a number of intellectual-type use LLM as a kind of “dirty little secret.” They will close the tab, poo-poo it and act embarrassed when a simple question is on display to a chatbot.

I don’t use that.

Are certain people concealing their actual LLM use? An admittance to limitations and shortcut taking.

Similar to eschewing Wikipedia as an avenue research, in search of something more rigorous. But you wonder how many insights were brought upon by a wiki-walk.

In those more open about it but still aware of the limitations, I’ve heard it mentioned in a manner like “according to ChatGPT”, like “according to google.”

Googling

“Googling” as a word captured the sense of the concept. This was made famous with the Bing joke, “I’m going to Bing it” – not that the word itself is resistant, (I feel Bing it, does have the qualities for success), it just seems like “Google” took over. The genericized form would be ”internet search” in the manner of “photoshopping” is “digital image manipulation” across a number of software (and probably even analog) uses.

But GPT, ChatGPT it, doesn’t have this universal quality.

I’m not sure if new language developing here in the chat space, at least no dominating members or language come to mind. ChatGPT perhaps, but that’s more directly tied to usage in my mind.
