The Cento: a work of poetry that is composed of various lines taken from different poems.
Types
- Blackout - poet takes an existing work — and uses marker or pen to black out certain lines or phrases to reinterpret the original work.
- Erasure - using whiteout to cover certain words. Graffiti that covers up words on buildings or signs might be a type of erasure poem
- Cut-up - cutting words out of source materials and rearranging them to create a new meaning
NOTE
I’m a programmer and two colleagues came to me, panicked thinking someone was trying to contact them. They’d return to work in the morning and have a page waiting at their printer.
I looked at the print out GET / HTTP 1.0 GET / HTTP 1.0 HELP HELP
along with unicode hearts ❤ and other random glyphs from strange encoding.
One person thought someone was contacting them in some kind of distress.
The other thought it was some kind of secret love letter fax because of the ASCII hearts.
Turns out at work they installed network security software that scanned servers for vulnerabilities.
A number of staff had older printers that had onboard webservers for printing that were getting hammered by these probes, causing them to print pages of what seemed liked ASCII gibberish as data packets were interpreted as print job data.

Web Weaving
There’s a tumblr practice called web weaving which is linking together different types of media because they have the same theme.
