rel: Remember The Hand by Catherine Brown Yours Truly… by Marc Drogin

Motivating thoughts

Thinking of manuscripting, handwriting, and also that concept that comes to mind where the web’s presentation is more homogenized (for good reason at times) - via design frameworks, or giving up user control (personal websites → myspace → facebook and the lack of CSS/web access.)

Effort in a task.

Imagining the internet, but in the human hand ever present rather than typed text.

In this fantasy world, all human input is not typed – say an input field. You’d see the human hand there, written as if on a page.

Typing becomes less common, then dies out. The favored medium is written. The “same” exact internet except, as I am typing here – you’d see my handwriting.

What kind of variants of presenting ourselves would come from this? Styles of writing, flashy, or fast or scratchy.

What would the technology that facilitates this communication style look like? Fully image based uploads? The more analog-esque, and arduous the task of writing the better.

Would there be decrease in spam? Would there be ways to alleviate direct copy.

What about original word? Would the traces be easier seen?

Design would be completely idiosyncratic because a cohesive style guide for a font wouldn’t be available as it is with fonts. Font is anonymizing. Unless site commenters (neo-scribal) by convention of the sites/communities they live in.

NOTE

It seems manuscriptal is more proper, but I like manuscriptic better?

Collage/Bricolage

Now I’m revisiting this, and imagining almost like a collage element that could come out of this manuscriptal web. Almost like these surrealistic collages, or an assemblage – bits of the room or the personality involved, or intentional artifacts presented on the page to express emotions.
