I see a headline and immediately people will opine, and not only that – have what they believe to be a comprehensive understanding of the situation. Days ago the thought nothing of it, but now they have read something or encountered a conversation and believe they have a handle on it.
Like when COVID came out and suddenly you had overnight epidemiologists.
So instead, when I feel I know something, enough that I can speak on it – I almost have to consider if I am parroting something or it is communication by proxy. Really what are the flows of information that allowed me, probably a nonexpert on the subject (if I had not considered it before), to be able to opine about it.
Sure there you can only be critical in degrees in order to successfully function, but I also have this discipline in the back of my mind whenever I speak.
I’m suspect about what I think I know.
I think there is a balance of trying to understand viewpoints of the conversation, find healthy ones and prioritize that.
