Eye Music Hole Punch Leaves Punched Cards
Thought
Seen at the Morris Museum in May of this year.
There is a fundamental similarity to me, about how someone would play music like this and the Chinese Room, or comprehension of how music might originate.
I may have precise instructions of which notes to hit (even if colored or lit up) and anyone can play music like that.
Book music is a medium for storing the music played on mechanical organs. Book music is made from thick cardboard, containing perforated holes specifying the music to be played, with the book folded zig-zag style.
The length of each tune was no longer determined by the physical dimensions of the instrument.
Book music was patented in 1892 by organ maker Anselmo Gavioli. The keys would cause wear to the music books after time as the holes punched on the pages were first allowing keys to rise in the frame, but were later made with a keyless frame where the holes allowed air to pass through.
