After writing this I did look this up
rel:
On clusters and formations - birds flying in groups
I have to look up studies and diagrams of bird V-Formations and how they morph. In reviewing some footage I have of these birds flying overhead I noticed a change over the course a few seconds.
In this time I noticed a new point forming.
I’d like to see all of the motions of these birds flying in formation and the different phases they take (like for me I am unable to distinguish any birds, but would assume their positions shift.)
Just this afternoon when walking by the shore a small V formation of Canadian geese flew overhead. One bird squawked loudly, and I am certain that I heard some persistent “hum” from at least one other bird.
Continuing my walk, another formation came by with the same characteristic, an occasional boisterous squawk.
I swiveled my head after they passed, and saw the two groups merging with a cacophony of squawks (this time called by many members.) The merging of the two groups wasn’t organized, in that they existed as a chaotic group with an unclear formation. They swooped in and out of one another’s paths, no longer the singular directed movement of the formation.
I now presumed on some level this squawking was a kind of auditory orienting of the group, and perhaps some anxiousness/communication about their mesh.
But I considered my own communication, or just interfacing of groups and how this could function within the idea of this grouping of birds. The different elements of it, perhaps as a means of speaking to provide orientation for a task (not even having any purpose here, imagining this, besides a sound that is like a marker to the others.)
I can cry or yell (and probably scare off the birds) and there are no words transmitted through that action.
