Continued Lake Wobegon thoughts.
On this part,
People fixating on those in their close social network: “I’m stressed, due to Sam, from down the block, excelling at swimming fast - but this swift swimming is something I love and I am the best at it. I loathe him for it.”
Meanwhile, in the greater world - the set of all greatest swimmers, including mildly sedated porpoises will always “beat” both you and Sam. You don’t know the greatest swimmer and she doesn’t know you.
I listened to this AI song creator, prompted with classic guitar prompt, produce a song that would take me many hours to learn. When I broke it down, it was all simple and derived (though these aren’t invalidating features.) You had to actively listen to hear it.
The problem is that you cannot know everything as in the individual pieces of song-stuffs that comprise all of sound. The finiteness (song unknowing) and decay (song forgetting) of human existence necessitates gaps. I cannot cohere all that is “better” than me, into one individual piece as the human being I am.
The sum of human effort, will always be “better” than my single thing, but since we are used to believing something creative is the work of a single charmed human, we aren’t equipped for this supposed singular “creator.”
