Ok

I was thinking of all the ways to say ok in text and the manner they all have different emotional connotations.

For example, even adding a period after a single ok changes the popular feel.

  • I’m going to be late again

  • ok.

  • I’m going to be late again

  • ok

“Ok” has a property that is somewhat unique. I feel that the period form is strengthened by the addition of the period, and that it can be even more devastating that a explicative in the correct situations. For example, I feel even a “negative” word “fuck.” becomes weaker with a period, almost like a curt joke whereas “ok” gains power. Other curses have this too, “shit.”

Now look at it again, “ok.”

It terminates the conversation. Almost like a soft ban.

Variants

And this dismissive Ok, which makes me laugh each time:

Emoji ok

I was running with a joke hypothesis that language would shift to emoji Oks after too much mental trauma from receiving “Ok.” texts.

So it seemed that emoji Oks would take the place of them in this case, and it would be necessary to see what kind of ways to say ok were possible in emoji.

First we have, 👌, which has associations with white supremacy unfortunately.
In a sense,👍, is also valid and if we want to emojify the text itself variants like 🆗 and variants of people gesturing ok 🙆‍♂️ and possibly compound emojis like 🇴🇰

Rejected Proposals

In looking through this I find a fascinating list of rejected emoji proposals , with plenty [examples of the body in books.

To get your emoji as part of Unicode standard you have to submit a PDF proposal which is reviewed by committee.

Some of these are entertaining. They have a Popularity Vs. Goblin Column and it’s at 963%

They tried to propose, Frowning Pile of Poo I’m tempted to adopt these orphans.

Emoji ZWJ Sequence

There’s references in this documentation for ZWJ sequence, which means zero width joiner sequences which is a combination of multiple emojis which display as a single emoji on a supported platforms when a ZWJ character is added.
