rel: Avoiding Superbowl

I nearly avoided knowing who won the Super Bowl this year.

As explained in the referenced note, when you skip watching the Super Bowl you can try to avoid the knowing who won.

Normally, if you survive a week you’re in the clear as background chatter drops.

I managed to swap a conversation about the game in general to be focused on the half-time show (this wouldn’t help me on what I feel is the harder challenge of not knowing who is performing the halftime show.)

But ultimately I was undone while my attention was diverted. The discussion came up in casual conversation in a livestream I was watching. Before I knew it, I knew the victor.

It’s almost insidious how this knowledge creeps in when you try to escape it. It speaks to the nature of it, as a public social event with tons of money and eyes thrown at it.
