NOTE

I am deeply pathetic gardener uncharacteristically lacking patience and follow through in specifically this field, which is why the instant gratification of mushrooms worked for me in the past but each year’s sunflower has been a failure. There is a real appeal to sunflowers though and a competitive spirit to making them as tall as possible. My neighbors have kids and I’ve always wanted to surprise them with large sunflowers looming over the yard.

I received a bag of sunflowers and scattered them. Here is an exhaustive classification of their various states, life and death.

  • seed, kept in bag, never grew
  • seed, blighted after soaking, discarded
  • seed, eaten by bird minutes in
  • seed, in fine soil never grew
  • seed, in front yard, never grew in harsh soil
  • seedling, dropped on grass as seed, turned seedling and destroyed by landscapers
  • seedling, failed thriving after transplant
  • quick bloom, second tallest, weak petals, heavy head slumped into shed roof the rest of days.
  • tallest plant, snapped at base just before bloom, never bloomed
  • small plant, snapped at base from inquisitive wildlife
  • community of full grown and bloomed and thrived below, but never got tall due to shade of larger plants
  • single full bloom in side garden, harsh soil, prized.
  • community of full bloom, medium height

Is there anything past this?

Presumably I could include

  • seed, placed into another bag I never purchased
  • seed, produced from blooms above
