I noticed the grounds crew had placed holiday lights. You see certain people who are very precise with their application of holiday lights, either swirling the trees or piping contours. Then there are people who somewhat chaotically drape it (the habit of the tree itself might necessitate this.)

The structure of lights on trees was interesting to me this morning. You have the underlying tree structure providing support but I was interested in the flow of the lights and why they lay the way they did, in the spaces between the branches (points of contact).

It wasn’t a precise thing but it still provided coverage in the spaces. This idea of a flowing thing, wrapping something that is fixed like a branch was appealing, like it could be applied to some other kind of thought.

There could be a chaotic unchaotic decorator, who applies her decorations like this “I want to mirror this chaotic mess, with the exactitude and care of if I were precisely contouring or piping.” She matches what seems to the observer as a chaotic mess, but it is all intended.
