Neologistic Error Words

NOTE

As a rule, you should never accept word suggestions from typing assistants. You, as a human being, should type the entire word out because a word is a process not just a point.

Your phone autosuggests “on my way” in the text message box, which you click to expedite sending. A convenience because who wants to type out the same thing. How does the trajectory of this choice differ from the “on screen” identity of typing “o n m y w a y”? It does seem limiting the text, and not the production of the text and the actual thought (and subsequent thoughts) is a completely different mental process. My focus is guided by the suggestion, instead of granular composition.

Update: Look at all of these error words I’ve produced and collected. They are kind of useless, but they are also stored here. Had I not kept hold of my mistakes, I’d have lost them all but now they are here.

In writing notes I’ll often bump against the language. Errors can be like this

• a finger slipping between keys
• completing a word incorrectly, probably due to semantic adjacency of two words
• typing without looking at the keyboard and shifting everything. So the relative distances will be correct, but the origin off. Such as R becomes T, and thus F → G.
• completely altering the word based on a background thought I am having concurrently
  • thinking about “photos” and typing “photos” instead of “pencils”
• when using penmanship instead typing often I’ll make an error on a character level, like skipping an “o” and writing an “m.” To correct this in pen I’ll either morph the character into the correct character (through altering the shape/appending lines or curves) or I’ll squeeze the correct character between the one I’ve jumped to and the previous.

I was thinking it might be easier to just have some kind of auto-correct, instead of this red squiggle spell check so I wouldn’t have to constantly return back to correct my constant typographic errors.

But to make this a valuable experience, I noticed that I was sometimes producing new words out of the errors. If I were simply automatically conjuring correctness, I’d have never encountered these. So this error has value.

As I encounter interesting ones I’ll document them here, and perhaps provide a new word sense example.

I made the following errors:

• mundance instead of mundane
  • mundance is the most tepid form of dance. It can sometimes be experienced when you are nervous to “go all in” and feel the slightest movements of a dance reflected and scaled internally, when in reality it’s just minute movements, so mundane, your mundance.
• cree, transcription of tree with crimson occurring later in the sentence
• AI transcription produces “Heric colitis” in place of “Heraclitus” which causes me to furiously seek some shared etymological root (nonexistent.)
• fial instead fail
  • a fialure looking at itself, unable to even exist in harmony. There’s also a feeling of “flailing” in the letter combination, like a hurried typist introducing errors into a text through flailing fingers.
• In Love Letters Made Easy - Gabrielle Rosiere there’s an older way of enclosed, and in the text it is written “inclosed” in this context the placement of an ivy leaf as a message of affection. (in)-closed here.
• salmness - instead of “calmness”
  • I almost see a possible variant “balmness”, like how someone would apply an fragrant balm for a soothing effect.
• noen - broken “none”
  • somehow, the brokenness of nothing, a void, seems applicable and pleasantly asymmetrical.
• ownly - in place of “only.”
  • Such a simple word that I misspell - clearly because of phonetic similarity. “Ownly” is a more inward, atomic possession, that exists in singularity (perhaps because all others are gone, you covet it most dearly.) Use: “Once they all had left, she was the ownly one I had to talk to, and the ownly one I wished to.”
• b usy - in place of “busy”
  • this is a new class that I detected. So obvious that it slipped me. A word that is detached from itself and so wrong.
  • I like the urgency of “b usy” like the speed of busyness doesn’t allow for it to stop to pick up the “b”. I also read it like “be- yoo-see”, like “use”
• astrocities - in place of atrocities
  • critical malfunction of the oxygen facilities on mars colony Nova York.
• facks - in places of facts (written in a groggy state of just awoke)
  • this feels like “tacks” on the realm of truth, a simple blunder you perceive as true but stepping into hurts your exposed feet.
• trea - in place of tree.
  • there’s a sense of trea being more archaic (archea). Perhaps a trea is just that, the eldest of trees that exist deep in forest the past.
• abscence - in place of absence.
  • it could be like ab- as in the prefix “outside of” - a realm outside of senses. But I also like the construction “absense” which surely has been conjured up before, because it is so cutesy. There’s the feeling of a lack of sensing something, in encompassing anything non-subjectively felt. I get the absense of the plant that is bathed in sunlight, and can feel the warmth in a way that is totally “unfelt” in actuality.
• almsot - in place almost.
  • almsot is almost almost.
• condidate - instead of candidate
  • clearly politically relevant with the con angle, that makes me think this must have been found before for political jabs.
• moduct - as a combination of model+construct
• meaningwhile - instead of meanwhile
  • meanwhile has a present quality “at the same time” - so what does that make meaningwhile? Maybe playing off meaning- this is the point in the present where meaning originates. Like like this, because meanwhile is contemporaneous but also has some diversion, some “offscreen” quality. Maybe the meaning occurs offscreen, outside of our consciousness, and we are guided toward it.
• mattters - instead of matters
  • matter, the extra t’s give some added weight and for me mentally an onomatopoeic element, like something heavy that is clattering when being dropped, producing increasingly smaller bounces till stopping.
  • there’s also part of me inserted, my name being matt.
• undernearth - instead of underneath, and then in writing this another error - undearneath
  • Wow! This error spawned another beautiful word it its own documentation.
  • Undern-earth, has such a nice quality to it conjuring subterranean caverns that run through the earth.
  • And the un-dear-neath is a wonderful error. It could be one of my favorite accidents so far. If I had to try to express why, to me calling something dear feels so intimate, and close - like the start of a romantic letter. When we apply un- there’s some removal of this intimacy, but -neath comes as a surprise, as if what is dear is too close to be undone. There is loss, but presence.
• unlocly in place of unlucky when quickly written.
  • there’s some brokenness here, as if slipped on a banana peel and causing injury to your mouth. Someone asks what happens and your response, filtered through bloody mouth, is that you were “unlocly”.
• foget instead of forget
  • fog-gy forgetfulness, memory is clouded but in a diminutive way.
• 18883 instead of 1883, as in a year.
  • This was in reference to an event, saying this event occurred in 18883 instead of 1883. Maybe somewhere in the middle of this timeline, there’s a fold in spacetime that causes the event to reoccur exactly.
• by by, in place of by
  • I typed by, waited with my hands over the keyboard and typed “by” again, thoughtlessly unaware that I had already. It somehow mirrored the passage of time between the words. All the space in the “by”.
• expalined, in place of of “explained”
  • this should be defined as an explanation but with some doubt to the truth. Can you actually trust the source of a misspelt answer?
• shope instead of shop.
  • to shop with hope that something will be in stock.
• htye instead of they
  • In my hurried typing, they came out in a jumble that reminded me of limbs twisted from going too quickly in many ways.
• lbue swans instead of blue swans
  • lbue swans, a species of swans that are a milky blue.
• lyyrical instead of lyrical
  • I cannot produce a definition for this error word, but I note it because I like the “lyyr” fragment aesthetically. It might even just be the adjacent “yy” which are beautiful, and have a rareness to their adjacency. It might even be that the two adjacent “y” characters are the most beautiful when paired. • sentities instead of entities
  • sentient entities
• inly instead of only
  • keyboard nearness of “i” to “o”, the inwardness of inly feels related.
• withe instead of “with the”
  • intrinsic linkage
• soung instead of sound + song
• favorted instead of favored
  • I believe this is a mixup of locking in my head, favorited
• bmiss instead of bliss
• throught instead of thought
  • I liked this. Clearly I was mistaking through with thought and the merging of the two conveys some sense of the progression of thought, and is there is a process that you push through for the concept to emerge. A thought not being a distinct point, but steps around and toward.
• philm instead of film
  • Was reading about photography On Photography - Susan Sontag and writing a sentence. The ph- of photography was phonetically grafted on the film, as the subject loads the film on the camera.
  • For some reason in this isolated specimen case, I’m almost getting more of the word sense of “film” as in “a thin layer.” Despite proximity to photograph, I get more of this feeling when isolated.
• dispell instead of dispel
  • strangely I had a moment when I could not get the autocorrect to acknowledge the correct spelling of dispel. I felt it had to have a duplicated letters. So I tried dispell (perhaps thinking of a spell) and then when that didn’t correct, I tried disspell. Finally I realized my error, dispel is the correct spelling despite how clipped it seems. So this new word, dispell is simply a spelling curse which afflicts someone in which case they cannot spell. (Just realizing this relationship here, spells in the magic-sense and spelling.)
• punchture instead of puncture
  • when speaking about a hole punch. There’s a similar degree of force, and relation to a punch.
• someposite in place of composite
  • a composite where there is more left out than combined. An absence is felt in the result.
• inderstand, instead of understand
  • maybe a fundamental inward understanding? to grok, but less from a mental place but from a physical place, at the core. Inside, and innate.
• scape instead of escape
  • I left out the e while writing and only noticed looking at the words over again. It felt like the e had -scaped while I carried on the the sentence. Oh! There it went!, (e) ← I’ve net it here.
  • “Scaped” is to write something, and only realize something is missing upon reading.
• lofe instead of love
  • lofe is still love, but love left to denature, possibly through time or inaction. What clung passionately, now is a saggy, shapeless drape. If love is not nurtured consciously, it becomes blended too heavily with prosaic life and taken for granted. It becomes lofe, a loaf of love, of life.
• dogmain instead of domain
  • dogmatic domain adherence.
• doesn not instead of does not
  • deciding to type out fully “does not” when initially going for “doesn’t” and ending midway.
• infi nite instead of infinite
  • this word was copied from a PDF, with a line break included resulting in the split word.
  • under the discussion at the time was a theory of disconnected shadows which postdate their bound objects by millions of years.
  • The sense of an infinite night is here, thus poetically infi nite.
• wird instead of word
• “can I go deeper” instead of “can I go deeper?”
  • excluding the question mark. How does it change a sentence? This works with “deeper” and the question itself feeling answered. Deeper feels like it is always questioning.
• inventure, rather than “adventure”
  • the part of the journey which resides inside the adventurer, or a kind of minor but soulfully profound day inside.

Lost imaginary word

I was typing and misaligned my hands so the word came out wrong. But it had a poetic quality to it, so I wrote it down. I thought it was beautiful.

I believe I’ve lost it now. I might be able to find it, but I wonder now if I should. Isn’t it fun that it exists in this imaginary lost state when it wasn’t really ever anything at all?

I found it in google searches. The magical word was yhrsytr.
