Imagine how interaction styles would change if the comment box, rather than being just basically plaintext, was this insane and personal space. I thought about this because I was on this bird site and the comment field at the bottom had this really impactful CSS, really making the commenters text almost as foreground to the content.

Imagine comments to a site are slowly written in deliberate penmanship on a page for pens, or given watercolor renditions on an artist’ site.

Obvious problems with this because of the general quality of comments, but I was just thinking of it in terms of how having your text displayed in a different manner would affect the comments text, and their desire to engage with comments. This isn’t a practical thing.

I still use old.reddit styles, and prefer that kind of plain tabular style for everyday. So it’s just a thought. When I’m a power user, it’s really hard to beat these distilled versions when many a kind of doodad design gets in the way.

I remember in early web forums you’d spend a lot of effort to design your signature. There was almost a medieval artisan feel to people in the communities who would take requests for signatures, and produce the desired look.

It’s nice when you search something, usual video with smaller video count, and find a community of youtube comments which are of similar tone. They might be reflecting on the song in the video and the memories they had with it, or commiserating with one another. Everyone is pretty pleasant. Good vibe.
